Unlock LinkedIn – Grow Connections and Expand Business Reach

by | Apr 18, 2023

Are you a business owner or C-level executive looking to expand your reach on LinkedIn? Perhaps you’re writing valuable and fascinating posts, but find that your message isn’t being heard by enough people. After all, what good is a post if only a handful of people are reading it?

This is the situation facing many B2B businesses that only target business owners and C-level executives, but lack the connections on LinkedIn to get their message out there. As we all know, LinkedIn is one of the most powerful tools for networking and growing your business connections. However, it’s not just about having a profile and posting content. You must have a large network of connections to ensure your message reaches a broader audience.

Think about it: your message will have a much greater impact if it reaches 10,000 connections than just 1,000. But, how do you go about growing your LinkedIn connections?

This article will explore strategies and insight for expanding your network and reaching more people on LinkedIn. So, if you’re ready to take your LinkedIn game to the next level, keep reading!

Maximise Your LinkedIn Reach

With LinkedIn’s limit of 100 connection requests per week, you must be strategic about whom you choose to connect with. Here are some different ways to find and add the right people to your network:

  • Go to the LinkedIn networks page and scroll through the list of suggestions. Click Connect to anyone that fits the target description.
  • Identify an influencer in your target industry/profession, ideally those with over 100,000 followers. Please look at their post engagements, and add those who react to their posts and fit the target description. These people are active on LinkedIn, so having those in your network is ideal.
  • Search on LinkedIn for the position/industry that you are targeting. Add those people to the results page.

Method #1: Scroll through LinkedIn Networks Page

Go to My Network to see all suggested connections from LinkedIn. You can filter out the people not in your target audience and add the remaining. You can continue doing this until you exhaust all 100 connections per week.

Method #2: Influencer Piggyback

The concept is simple; research those well-known in the targeted industry and monitor the interactions of their posts. For example, I want to target people in the SEO industry. There is a LinkedIn article about who is the most popular on the topic, which is easy to find as we just need to google it.

Now that I know 3-5 people, I start following them and examining their posts. Adding people who interacted with the posts ensures that your connections are active and interested in the topic. Let’s go with Neil Patel, anyone who is in the SEO space knows him.

After following him, examine his posts, and connect to everyone who suits your target audience.

Method #3: Utilise the Search tool

LinkedIn’s search function is powerful for finding and connecting with potential contacts in your target industry or position. To start your search, type in the keywords that describe the kind of connection you’re looking for in the search bar at the top of the LinkedIn homepage. You can search by industry, job title, location, and more, and the results will be sorted by relevance.

Once you have your search results, you can further narrow your options using the provided filters. It’s essential to take the time to review each potential connection’s profile to ensure that they’re a good fit for your network and to personalise your connection request message to increase your chances of them accepting your request.

Let’s Talk Numbers!

We begin with some facts:

  • In a week, LinkedIn allows us to send 100 connection requests. After that, we can only accept incoming requests.
  • Maximum 1st-degree connections are capped at 30,000 per account.
  • Not all requests will be accepted. Only about 65% of requests will be accepted.

Now the Calculation

Let’s say, you have 1,000 connections right now. How long can you get to 10,000 connections if we max out the requests every week?

It is simple math; the result is about 138 weeks, i.e. about 34 months.

Sending requests is the easy part. Keeping it consistent for 138 weeks is the challenge. I did it myself for a few weeks, and it took me around 5-6 hours on average. Most business owners will drop the activity after a few weeks as they have better things to do. But, the ones who stick with the method will have a healthy account after a year and a half.

Takeaway

In conclusion, growing your LinkedIn connections is essential to building your professional network and expanding your business reach. Following the methods outlined in this article, you can take the effective steps towards increasing your connections and engaging with a broader audience. Remember that building your network takes time and effort, but the results can be well worth it.
